  • Who We Are

  • Dr Willem Pienaar

    BChD, PDD, MBA
    Born and raised in the Goldfields of South Africa, Willem enjoyed growing up on a farm and attended a rural school before he attended the University of Pretoria. He obtained a BSc degree in agriculture after which he completed his Dental Degree at the same University.

    After 6 years in private practice in South Africa, Willem immigrated to New Zealand in 2004 with his wife Colette, and two sons and has since had a daughter of whom they are now all teenagers.

    Motueka suited Willem and his family particularly well as they value the rural lifestyle and sense of community that is core to our town.

    Outside dentistry Willem is involved in Church of Christ and Life Investments Ltd, a charitable company for the community. He enjoys swimming, kayaking and is a keen rugby follower.

  • Dr Grace Morrison

    BDS
    Grace was born and raised in the Wairarapa, and graduated from the University of Otago with a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Dental Surgery. Grace moved to Nelson and joined the Pienaar Health team in January 2017.

    Grace enjoys the variety and challenge of rural dentistry. She really values having the time to get to know her patients, so she can provide quality and appropriate care. Out of the surgery, Grace has a special interest in Forensic Odontology.

    Grace likes to spend weekends out enjoying paradise with her husband George. The happiest days are spent gardening, swimming, fishing, kayaking, catching up with family, and immersed in nature at Nelson Lakes.

  • Dr Yi Wei Ng

    BDS
    Born in the heart of Malaysia, Yi Wei moved with family to good ol’ Dunners (Dunedin), NZ in 2011. She graduated from the University of Otago and has since joined the team at Pienaar Health Dental.

    Yi Wei is fluent in English, Malay, Cantonese and with conversational Mandarin. She enjoys all aspects of dentistry but with particular interest in Aesthetic Dentistry.

    Outside of work, you'll either find her gardening, baking, or strumming her ukelele by the sea.

  • DT Lynette Nicholas

    Certified Dental Therapist
    Lynette is the registered dental therapist member of our team and with her keen interest in prevention, she strives for a positive patient experience and collaborative care plan for each person's visit.

    Lynette has a long background in the field of dentistry having spent many years working in the Nelson hospital dental department, a speciality orthodontic practice, and now private practice. Her public and private sector experience in both clinical and managerial roles have given her a wide-ranging skill set to optimise dental care for her patients.

    Away from the dental chair Lynette's love of animals is enhanced by volunteering for the SPCA, and when time allows, travels with her family and friends.

  • Lesley McKenzie

    Dental Assistant
    Lesley has been chairside assisting with Willem Pienaar for over 13 years. She has seen the changes of the practice over this period and she is excited with all the new aspects of what they have been doing and what the future will bring, especially being involved with implants.

    The highlight of her career was travelling to Papua New Guinea on a voluntary Medical Ship (YWAM) with a Dental Team as part of a worldwide Medical Team in May 2019.

  • Yolanda Knapp

    Dental Assistant
    Yolanda is the friendly face who shares the sunniest surgery in Motueka with the young Dentist, Dr Grace Morrison. Having 17 years of experience as a Dental Assistant.

    When she’s not at work, you’ll find her on the side of a sports field, or out horse riding with her daughter or hanging out and relaxing with family.

  • Leanne Smits

    Dental Assistant
    Leanne has been in the dental industry for 25 years, mainly assisting in the surgery, but occasionally relieving at reception. She was Willem’s first assistant when he moved to New Zealand from South Africa.

    Born in Motueka, Leanne is a true local. She loves working in a close-knit team and enjoys meeting and developing new connections.

    Family, friends, great food and keeping active are just a few of her life’s enjoyments.

  • Penny Sandberg

    Dental Assistant
    Penny (Pernilla) was born and raised in Sweden but New Zealand has been her home for the past 30 years.

    She has 12 years experience as a Dental Assistant and is certainly passionate about her role in helping to see that the best possible care is provided to our patients and enjoys being part of a great team.

    When she is not in the dental scene she is helping her family to run a Hop Farm.

    Outside of work she enjoys walking, keeping fit and values time with her family and friends.

  • Katie Archibald

    Dental Assistant
    Katie is a qualified and highly experienced dental assistant, having been in the industry since 2001.

    She was born and raised in Mahana, and loves spending her evenings and weekends with family at their piece of Riwaka paradise.

    Katie is a keen sportswoman, dabbling in Zumba, touch, netball and PT sessions to keep her fitness up.

  • Jess Fauchelle

    Dental Receptionist / Administration
    Jess has been in dentistry for over 10 years, and enjoys being part of the awesome team at Pienaar Health Ltd.

    She is also a trained Dental Assistant, but her skillset and character have had her gravitate towards Dental Reception / Administration, with a dash of IT on the side. Jess enjoys helping patients, and all the administrative paperwork that comes with it (she’s not kidding!)

    Born and raised in Nelson, Jess lived in Christchurch for 10 years but moved home to Richmond to expand her young family which now includes a gorgeous black Labrador Cross.

  • Julie McGuire

    Dental Receptionist
    Julie joined the Pienaar Health dental family in winter of 2019. She originally started in the industry back home in Ottawa, Canada as a Dental Assistant and part-time Receptionist in 2006. After moving to New Zealand, she decided to follow her passion and stay in the dental field.

    She is excited to be a part of this team and is looking forward to building relationships in the community.

    Julie enjoys travelling, photography, watching movies and fitness.
